Should Gospel Artists Be Called Celebrities?

First, let us dissect the word celebrity.  What is a celebrity?  1. A famous or a well-known person 2. fame or renown reveals  Then, Merriam Webster defines the word as (1.) a state of being celebrated; 2. a famous or a celebrated person.  Here is a very important question, why is it a strong desire for gospel artists to be famous like the world?  No one in the family of God should be celebrated while spreading the message of Jesus Christ through song.  It is abnormal for a gospel artist to desire to be like a Hollywood superstar, rock star or even a hip hop superstar, because in the Kingdom of God, Jesus Christ is the only one to be idolized not anyone or anything.   If you desire to be a gospel artist, you must expect to be a minister, because producing gospel music in a ministry, it is not to be mistaken as a career to make you a celebrity.    So when we see hip-hop gospel artists or even christian rock artists who are revealing themselves and even calling themselves celebrities it offends God, because His Son was the only one who died on the cross, not gospel artists and therefore, none of them should be focused on as though they are idols.   Things have gotten so bad, on a prior blogtalkradio interview, the ex-wife of Tonex (B-Slade), Yvette Williams refers to herself as once being a celebrity wife.  Seriously, how can she complain about the wrongdoings of Tonex, if she is placing him above Jesus Christ, even after their marriage was over?   It is just as much of a sin to expect for people to idolize you as a celebrity or a celebrity wife as it is for someone like Tonex to admit he is a gay man.  Never should it had been a such a thing as celebrities among the body of Christ, that is the world, it is not God's idea of any servant of his to be seen as similar to those who partake in worldly affairs, the unsaved celebrities who belong to the Devil.

Gospel artists are supposed to be messengers of Christ who distinct themselves from worldly entertainers, they are not supposed to be 'American Idols'.   To be an idol is a sin or even to idolize someone other than God.
  • Isa 42:8 (NIV) "I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols."
  • 1 Cor 6:9-10 (NIV) Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy...

  •   Eph 5:5 (NIV) For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

  •   Isa 42:8 (NIV) "I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols."

  • Eze 6:4-6 (NIV) "... I will slay your people in front of your idols. I will lay the dead bodies of the Israelites in front of their idols, and I will scatter your bones around your altars... your idols smashed and ruined, your incense altars broken down, and what you have made wiped out."

Ladies and gentlemen, it is a sin to glorify these gospel artists and not give full attention to God.  God will destroy idols and even those who worship them.  You have just seen the scriptures for yourself and when you look at this photo of Vickie Winans, Canton Jones and Dorinda Clark Cole on the red carpet, you now realize that they are not doing the work of God, but only in the gospel music industry for personal gain.   God is not pleased and when we notice tragedies among those who were supposed to be righteous, we will know that God gave us all a forewarning in His Word.   There are no excuses, God desires for all of us to enjoy gospel music, but to be so caught up on the music artists and not focused on Jesus Christ is a sin and if they do not submit to the throne of God and repent, we are going to see judgement on the entire gospel music industry and even the ones who are in the leadership position, such as Bobby Jones; because God's music is suppose to be holy and different from the world and there should not be any such of status as a "celebrity".    Gospel artists should always represent Jesus Christ, making sure He gets all of the attention and praise, not themselves.   God has been angry at the gospel music industry for a longtime, but because He is a loving God, He has been very patient for them to change.  However, it seems as though they do not think it is necessary to consider God's feelings, regarding how they are representing His Kingdom.   As they stroll across the red carpet, they must think if it is okay with God for them to be there, because all God wants us to do as His messengers and servants is to win souls, not to be celebrities.

Furthermore, there are too many people who need to be saved and we do not have anymore time to waste.   Jesus Christ desires to save murderers, rapists, serial killers, abortionists, homosexuals, transexuals, idolaters, fornicators, adulterers, backbiters and various other sinners who should not be dying going to eternal hell and damnation.  Jesus needs to be the entire focus and not the gospel artists, so that sinners can repent and see Jesus Christ, not celebrities.  Celebrities cannot save anyone from hell.   Repent gospel artists before it is everlasting too late, thus saith the Lord!
